Driven By Ardour

When Kathir came to the city, he had hopes of earning high and saving up enough to give his family decent living conditions. But soon he realized that life in the city is not so easy. He started doing odd jobs at different places but struggled to make ends meet.

“I was looked upon with utter disregard by many people. But what could I do?” says Kathir. “I couldn’t go back to my village for fear of being laughed upon by others for my failure,” he adds. Kathir met a few others who were in a similar spot. They then met a volunteer of India Evangelist Association and explained their predicament.

IEA identified the issue and held a detailed meeting with them. IEA and these young men carefully evaluated their options and it was decided that IEA would fund a driving training course for Kathir and all the others.

They were all enthusiastic about the training. After they completed their course IEA assisted them in finding jobs as chauffeurs.

With new avenues opening up everyday in the chauffeur profession, Kathir is hopeful of doing well. He currently earns somewhere between Rs.10,000-Rs.15,000 per month. Speaking about his future plans he says, “I want to join one of the new cab companies that are coming up. I hear they pay pretty well! And if I can save up enough I hope I will be able to own a few taxis of my own.”

IEA really appreciates the zeal of Kathir and his friends, especially their will to achieve something in the face of all odds. IEA would always stand by those who defy their hardships and have a will to live their life in abundance.
