A Vision Epitomized

 A Vision Epitomized

A dilapidated house, tattered clothes, low income household and an impoverished family. These words pretty much sum up the life of Sajala or Aai (grandma), as she is fondly called by everyone in the community.

Sajala comes from the bottom rung of the communities in our society. At 77 years of age, Sajala can neither walk straight nor see clearly. These impediments, however, have not lessened her will to live her life in fullness. She says, “Everyone has to die one day. But till the day I can see the sun, I shall live my life to the fullest.”

India Evangelistic Association discovered this woman with a positive outlook towards life at one of its Health camps in Orissa. IEA’s volunteers were instantly charmed by Sajala. She lives with her eldest son Rangan in a thatched hut. Rangan is a farmhand-on-hire who tills others’ lands for a meager amount which feeds his entire family that consists of his wife, three children and his mother.

Expectedly Sajala finds it difficult to procure her medicines, medical treatment and proper nutrition. Thankfully, IEA’s Community Health Camp in their village has brought a lasting smile to her face. Clutching the medicines and a jar of protein supplement she expresses her joy, “Never did I think that I would be able to afford these medicines! I don’t want to be a burden on my son and wish to live the rest of my life on my feet rather than ailing on a cot. Doctors said that these medicines would help me do that. He is hopeful so as I.”

The vision of India Evangelistic Association was exemplified perfectly by this septuagenarian. We wish she serves as an inspiration for others in her community.
