Success Story of Football
Six sportspersons under the Agape Child Development Project of IEA have epitomized the power of women in the community. Namita, Lakshmi, Shanti, Nilam, Punam and Lata have proven that women can defy all odds and succeed in every field. These girls are part of the district football team and have won many honors for themselves and their team.
The parents of these girls are mostly pickshaw pullers and daily wage labourers. As such they struggle to earn even two square meals a day. The most common option for girls from such poor families are to become housemaids and earn whatever little they can. But these girls chose to rise above that and asked to play football.
Seeing their zeal, IEA got them football jerseys, shorts, cleats and other equipments. IEA also registered their names Cuttack Football Association. Soon they showed promise and won trophies for the team. This got them a call for state trials. If they are selected it will be a great achievement for them and the beliefs of IEA.
