Prakash Parichha
Prakash Parichha lived a peaceful life in the state of Odisha. He had a small grocery shop which provided enough for him and his wife. But the communal riots of 2008 which ravaged Kandhamal and bordering Gajapati district of the state destroyed his house and shop. Rioters looted and burned his shop and house. Prakash could somehow save himself and his wife and escape to safety.
In the aftermath of the riots, Prakash found it exceedingly difficult to rebuild his life. He came to Cuttack city in search of earning bread and butter. “I somehow got an odd job under Municipality Corporation cleaning dirty waste and garbage of Cuttack City. I have literally shed tears and worked under inhumane condition for my living”, says Prakash Parichha.
He built a thatched hut of hay and plastic sheets that looked nonetheless in broken-down condition. The rains in Cuttack city often poured his house. Repeated worries kept agonizing my pain. His wife being crippled cannot stand long on 2 legs. So she could not work elsewhere other than staying in the house as housewife.
